Sukhmani Sahib (Podcast)

<p>In the Sukhmani, Guru Arjan Dev Ji frames the root problem of human existence as seen within the Indian spiritual tradition and Sikhi: It is the presence of kal kales - innate mental states that cloud the mind’s judgment with an existential discomfort, dukh. Dukh is the opposite of sukh, a sense of wholesomeness or wellbeing.<br /> <br /> The universal goal is to overcome these kleshas so that the mind can experience and function within its natural and pristine state. Guru Arjan’s injunction is that if you wish to experience sukh, then live in simran, or mindful Self-Awareness.<br /> <br /> Guru Arjan Dev Ji also clarifies what sukh means in the context of Sikhi. Sukẖ resides in amriṯ prabẖ nām; that is, tranquility and harmony come from Nam, the immutable and boundless essence of the prabh-Self. In other words, Self-knowledge is sukh itself.<br /> <br /> The KhojGurbani Project offers a series of podcasts of Sukhmani, a much recited and beloved composition of the fifth Nanak, Guru Arjan Dev ji. Sukhmani commences on Page 262 of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji and is composed in the musical meter Gauri. It consists of 24 saloks (couplets), with each salok accompanied by an Astpadi (eight versed stanzas), making it one of the longer compositions in the Guru Granth Sahib Ji.<br /> <br /> We hope that these podcasts will instill in the listener a desire to deepen their relationship with the Guru.</p>
