Dr. Nivedita Singh (Bibi Nivedita Kaur) is a legendary figure in the world of Gurmat Sangeet, with a distinguished career that spans over four decades. Born in Patiala, Punjab, Dr. Singh inherited her love for Gurbani music from her parents who were devout followers of Sikhism. She pursued her formal education in music, obtaining a Master's degree, an MPhil, and a PhD in Sociology of Hindustani Music from the University of Delhi. Her exceptional skills in music were influenced by leading Raagis and Sikh scholars who provided inspiration for her to pursue the field of Gurbani Music. Dr. Singh has had the privilege of learning from some of the most renowned music Gurus of India. She learned from the Late Prof. Tara Singh, who belonged to the Taksaal of Gurmat Sangeet and Gawalior Gharana of Khayal Gayaki. He was a pioneer in the field of Gurmat Sangeet, with over 3000 compositions of Gurbani Shabads in prescribed Raags and up to 15 books on Gurmat Sangeet. She also learned from the Late Dr. Ajit Singh Paintal, who belonged to Indore and Agra Gharana and Late Pandit Ganesh Prasad Sharma, who belonged to Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana. Dr. Singh's love and respect for her Gurus are evident in her music. As a Gurmat Sangeet Acharya herself, Dr. Singh has trained and influenced numerous students in the field. Her legacy in music is a testament to her contribution to the field of Gurbani music. She has been affiliated with various Gharanas, including the Gawalior Gharana of Khayal Gayaki. Dr. Singh's style of Gurbani music is classical vocal, Khyal Gayaki. She learned Gurbani music in prescribed Raags of Sri Guru Granth Saheb along with Taaleem in Hindustani music. Her music is a beautiful amalgamation of classical and contemporary styles. Dr. Singh has also taught Gurbani music at various institutions and has been a professor at the Department of Music, Punjabi University, Patiala. She has been honored with numerous awards for her contribution to the field of Gurmat Sangeet. Dr. Singh's brother, Dr. Alankar Singh, is also a renowned artist and is a constant source of inspiration for her. Dr. Singh's fellow learners, Dr. Gurnam Singh and Dr. Jabarjung Singh, have also made a mark in the field of Gurmat Sangeet. Dr. Singh's passion for Gurbani music has taken her to new heights, and her love for her art is evident in her music. Her exceptional skills and dedication to Gurmat Sangeet make her an iconic figure in the world of Gurbani music.
