Born on 13 April 13 1965, in Muchal Village, Amritsar, Punjab, Bhai Gurmeet Singh Shant comes from a family with a long lineage of Gurbani Kirtaniyas. His father, Giani Kishan Singh Shant, also a well-known musician who started training him at a very young age. Later, Bhai Gurmeet Singh received guidance from some well-known music gurus such as Giani Chatur Singh Dilruba Wale, Ustad Pardeep Singh (Nephew of Giani Gian Singh Almast), Bhai Sadhu Singh, and Bhai Bakhshish Singh. Bhai Gurmeet Singh Shant is an expert in classical vocal and Dilruba instrumental style of Gurbani music. He is particularly adept at singing compositions from the Dasam Granth including Raag Malas, Taranas and Guldastas, and is currently teaching at Gurmat Sangeet Vidyalaya in Punjab. He is also a regular guest at leading Kirtan Samagams in India.
